Historically we looked at the web design as an extention of print. It kinda worked for some time while the screen was a constant. The times had changed and web is browsed on devices of all shapes and sizes. Responsive design is a great solution, but looking at it from the print perspective isn't helping much. Therefore lets clarify some basic principles here. To keep it simple lets focus on layouts (yes, responsive goes way deeper than that and if you want to learn more this is a good start).
